Be kind – don’t rewind

I was discussing today with a colleague about kindness and compassion and how important it is to apply these attitudes to ourselves. The foundation of a truly successful life has to do with creating habits that make us feel worthy and loveable.

Be kind to yourself

If you love movies as I do, this title may have reminded you of this silly-funny film Be Kind Rewind where two bumbling store clerks make their own super trashy versions of videos to amend a big mishap. More of this further down.

Why is it so hard to love and nurture yourself?

A few hours after this conversation I got a newsletter. The following sentence struck me:

“I’ve found out over the last 30 years that being kind to themselves is one of the areas that people find the most difficult thing to do.”

I believe that only by being kind and compassionate to yourself you can find inner peace. This inner balance will lead you to achieve your best results in the world and to enjoy your life to the fullest.

How big are your dreams?

Watch the official trailer below: “Black stars as a loveable loser stuck in a life that’s too small for his big dreams. But when he unintentionally erases all the tapes in a video store where his best friend works, he devises a plan to satisfy the store’s few loyal customers by re-creating and re-filming every movie they decide to rent.”

On this blog I write about things like “spreading love, being bold and having fun”. The main character of Be Kind Rewind definitely is bold and has fun.

What can we learn from Be Kind Rewind?

1          Swed – create your own version

Jack Black, Danny Glover and Mia Farrow ‘swed’ (AKA re-film) classics such as Ghostbusters, Taxi Driver or Back to the Future. This film has inspired thousands to ‘swed’ scenes of films they loved.

Don’t look back and waste time blaming yourself about the past. Fast forward, create your best version of the future now.

2          Replay what you love

Don’t wait until something gets wrong or until it’s already too late. Don’t wait for someone to tell you what film they want to rent and then react.

Be proactive. Do more of what you love from now on, choose scenes of your life that make you happy and fill you up. Push “replay”.

3          Have fun creating an even better or simpler version

Our heroes ‘swed’ films with a budget of zero. Find out how and where you can inject more fun or boldness into your life.

What can you let go of now? What can you simplify in your life? Where is less more?
